At Read That Again we believe that Jesus Christ (The Anointed One) is the Son of God and is God. He was born of a Virgin by the Holy Spirit. He lived a sinless life as fully man, fully God. HE died for EVERYONE and HE has risen and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He sent us the Holy Spirit to guide, teach and comfort us. In HIS death and resurrection we are set free from sin and reconciled to have a deep and intimate relationship with God.

We are all made precious with value, purpose and in the Image of GOD!

2.png

But we were unfaithful in our relationship with Him, and so death and all kinds of suffering enters our reality...

3.png

Thankfully - God loves us so much that He gives His only Son to die for EVERYONE, and so He pays the spiritual debt we owe!

So that if we believe and follow Him we will be reconciled in our relationship with God and Life can be restored back within us!

Updated: Oct 5, 2023

Introduction:

"Rock of Ages" is a cherished hymn that has brought solace and inspiration to countless believers throughout the years. With its profound and comforting lyrics, this timeless song serves as a source of strength and refuge. In this blog post, we will explore the meaning behind the lyrics of "Rock of Ages" and experience the enduring message of hope found within this beloved hymn.

"Rock of Ages" Lyrics:

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,

Let me hide myself in Thee;

Let the water and the blood,

From Thy wounded side which flowed,

Be of sin the double cure,

Save from wrath and make me pure.

Not the labor of my hands Can fulfill Thy law's demands;

Could my zeal no respite know,

Could my tears forever flow,

All for sin could not atone;

Thou must save,

and Thou alone.

Nothing in my hand I bring,

Simply to the cross I cling;

Naked, come to Thee for dress;

Helpless, look to Thee for grace;

Foul, I to the fountain fly;

Wash me, Savior, or I die.

While I draw this fleeting breath,

When my eyes shall close in death,

When I rise to worlds unknown,

And behold Thee on Thy throne,

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,

Let me hide myself in Thee.

Rock of Ages

Finding Refuge and Strength:

The lyrics of "Rock of Ages" express the deep longing for refuge and redemption in the midst of human frailty and sinfulness. The hymn acknowledges that human effort alone is insufficient to fulfill the demands of God's law or atone for sin. Instead, it proclaims the need for salvation that comes solely through the grace of God.

The Rock of Ages:

The hymn draws upon the metaphor of God as the "Rock of Ages." This imagery symbolizes God's steadfastness, reliability, and unchanging nature. Just as a rock provides stability and security, the hymn invites believers to find refuge in God's eternal presence, seeking shelter from the storms of life.

The Double Cure:

The lyrics of "Rock of Ages" emphasize the concept of a "double cure." The water and blood flowing from Jesus' wounded side on the cross represent the complete redemption offered to humanity. This double cure refers to the forgiveness of sin and the transformation of the believer, making them pure in the sight of God.

Happiness is found in Jesus and He is the cure

A Humble Surrender:

"Rock of Ages" humbly acknowledges human helplessness and the inability to save oneself. It emphasizes the need to approach God with nothing in hand, relying solely on the saving grace found at the foot of the cross. The lyrics encourage believers to let go of self-reliance and fully trust in God's mercy and love.

An Everlasting Hope:

The hymn recognizes the fleeting nature of human existence and points to the hope of eternal life. It acknowledges the certainty of death and expresses the longing to rise to "worlds unknown" and behold God on His throne. In this longing, believers find comfort and assurance in the unchanging nature of the Rock of Ages.
